The Steigweg served the Romans as a splendid military road. To her was the cemetery of Castellum Matiacorum (Mainz-Kastel). Today is Steigweg a dirt road. At its highest point in 1697 was built a crossroads. Because of the weather vane on the Cross described it as one Fähncheskreuz.
